Lillian Annabel's Almost Finished Room with Three New Projects!

Sorry, I have been completely MIA from my computer these past few days. I am hoping to attempt to get caught up today and tomorrow at some point on e-mails, convos and blog reading, but for now wanted to post some photos of the projects I have finished up for Lillie's room. I finished three of the five of them last weekend and have put the other two on hold while we work on changing the guest bedroom into a nursery and try to get my new spring Dear Lillie items into gear. I still have to do something with the bare wall to the left of Lillie's bed (I know what I am going to do I just haven't had time to do it yet) and then I have a little more work I want to put into the window seat area and then it will be done! I am hoping to get back to it in another week or two but for now here are the three projects that are finished. (I am happy with how two of them turned out but not such a big fan of the third one).

Project 1: New Pillows
My favorite new thing is probably the pillows. They aren't perfect, by any means, but for once a project actually turned out pretty much how I had it in my head. That almost never happens! I made two silhouette pillows and two bolsters - the one on the bed she sleeps on says "lillian" and the other one on the other bed has her middle name "annabel". To keep the cost down I tried to use fabrics that I had left over from other projects. I did buy the bolster inserts, though, and the pink trim. I want to switch out the ribbon in the girl's hair for chiffon but haven't found any in the right shade of pink yet.

Project 2: Branch with Birds
To help fill out the empty space on the far wall Lillie and I found this branch in the woods and gave it a light coat of spray paint so it looks kind of like a branch from a birch tree. Then using the Silhouette machine I cut out a bunch of birds and hung them from the branches. This project was super cheap - pretty much just the cost of the spray paint ($6) and two sheets of the  pink and cream swirl paper ($.99 each). I already had the solid pink and gray cardstock.  I like that for under $8 it helps fill up a whole empty corner!

Project 3: Pretend Window
This project did not turn out at all how I had it in my head =(. I am really disappointed in it as I had something really specific in my mind but it came out WAY worse looking. Oh well. It was easy and inexpensive so I can always go back and try to fix it later or maybe start over. I just used a basic super cheap wood frame and spray painted it white and then added some dowels to the back to make it look like a window. Then I used the leftover fabric and trim from the pillows to make some curtains.

And here are bunch more photos where you can see the projects in their spaces in the room. The little bird picture above her dresser is way too small and I am going to change it out for the mirror that was in our guest bedroom I just haven't gotten to it yet. Hopefully that will get done this weekend. I took these photos on either Thursday or Friday, I think, and by Sunday the dress form was back in our room as Lillie informed me it was "scary" so now the rocking chair is back in there.  I liked how the height of the dress form looked sooooo much better in this corner. Maybe once she is a little older I can try to put it back in there again. =)

A pair of boots from Joyfolie.

Her little window seat area still needs some work.

I knew this day would come eventually - she now has a little tiny hoop in her room.

It's not too bad, though, because it's just on a tiny nail and I can remove it easily =).....hopefully Jon won't upgrade this to a bigger version for a while!

Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts and opinions on the nursery!
A couple of hours after posting that I decided to go ahead with Option 1 and we headed off to Benjamin Moore to pick up the brown paint. Several hours after that I was thinking it was the worst decision I had ever made! Taking down the wallpaper and painting that room turned out to be a nightmare project that took 3 or 4 times longer than I had anticipated. Here is Dana and Jamie helping start on the wallpaper on Monday night. Sadly, I was still working on it late Tuesday afternoon!

 What a mess!

Jamie and I spent two nights painting though (here is it midway through) and it is finally done! YAY!!!! We also got the crib set up last night! It was so wonderful having her here to help. I will be so sad to see her leave tomorrow but she is coming back down again next week - yay!!!!!  And I am going to try to not put her to work too hard next time or she may never come again! Haha!

Now to start on all the projects for the nursery! Ahhhhh!!!!! I need to get back to work on some Dear Lillie stuff first, though, so it will probably be another week or two before I start on those.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

  5. Your daughters room looks so nice! We just took down a border and some wall trim in Noah's room. So messy! He will be in charge of choosing his paint so I'm a little worried about that! I like your projects and I just love her little desk and chair - the angel wings are great!

  11. Those bolster pillows are too sweet. I adore them! And if your little kitchen area didn't turn out as you wanted it to, I can only imagine what your vision is, because I think it's perfect. My daughter would LOVE it. Such a sweet room.

Your wallpaper drama has me nervous about taking down my dining room wallpaper though! Oh how I hate taking down wallpaper!!

  15. LOVE!!!
Once again I am in love with everything!!! I know you mentioned before that the color on the walls is Benjamin Moore London Fog, and that it is gray. We are painting a room in our house gray as well but there are so many to choose from. This color seems to look a bit tan on my computer...wondering if it looks a bit like that in person...???
Also would you mind showing how you hung the branch...I would love to try this out in my daughters big girl room...once we decide to get going on it.
Thanks again for sharing all your wonderful rooms and I cannot wait to see the new nursery!!!

  16. I love all the elements in Lillie's room... love love. I think the window over the play kitchen is so cute and I'm not sure what you don't like about it. I'm sure Lillie thinks it's great.... Funny that she thought the dress form was scary. I have a gorgeous doll from when I was a child and I took it out of storage and tried to have it in my daughter's room when she was about 3... She was so freaked out by it and said it gave her nightmares! ugh... Your decorating is really pretty and I so love it. WIsh I lived closer... I think I would invite you over for lunch!

  17. I love all of the projects you did in Lillie's room. And I think you'll love the window too if you just take one of your gorgeous pictures of an outside scene and have it printed large enough to fit behind the frame. Then it will look like a "real" window! I think it's a darling idea! And I can see how a little one might find a headless dress form a little scary, but it did look really good in that corner!

The nursery is coming along great! I have stripped so much wallpaper in my time that I can't even count how many bits of dime sized paper I've cursed over the years! The paint color is fab though and so worth the effort!

  19. A) Not sure if a two-year-old child needs a live forest in her room.
    B) Shocked that you didn't try to paint the hoop pink or at least sprinkle some fairy dust on it.
    C) Doesn't look like there's a whole lot of room for activities.
    D) Otherwise, looks great.

  20. Swoon... you just know how to do it! I can't wait to see the nursery! It may be a pain now with all the work, but you will make it amazingly beautiful!

  21. A-freakin-mazing! And hey, if you don't like the basketball hoop, you could always paint it? Silver, chalkboard, pink.. a chic hoop! ;)

  22. Oh wow - gorgeous beyond words!! And did you make that awesome scarf?

  23. Everything looks so nice ~ her room is beautiful!! Would you consider putting little square mirrors or one large mirror behind the "window" to add to it? That might look nice! Love the paint colors too!

  24. This is so much fun. My favorites are the window above the kitchen and the dress form. I also love the unexpected color scheme. I'm always inspired by you!

  29. Thanks everyone!

Lissa - my sister, Dana, got that nightie for her for Valentine's Day and she wants to wear it all day every day! Ahhhhhh!!!!!

Esme - in my opinion London Fog is a pretty true gray. It looks pretty gray on my computer screen but I know that on every monitor colors can look soooo different. I have used several grays in our home here - London Fog, which is the lightest and is in Lillie's Room, Stormy Monday which we used in our master bathroom and it is a true gray as well but a more medium color (it is darker than London Fog), Pebble Beach in our guest bedroom (which I just painted over) and guest bathroom which is a blueish gray, Kendall Charcoal in our master bedroom which is a really dark gray that has a touch of blue in it, and Ashley Gray which is in our kitchen and dining room and is more of a brownish gray. If you are looking for a true gray I would recommend one of the first two or Timber Wolf which my sister Dana used in her apartment http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/danas-apartment.html which is a similar tone to those first two but is a little darker.
I hung the branch just by just screwing two hooks into the ceiling and then I just tied some clear wire onto the branch and looped it around the hook I used a light gray string to hang the birds from the branch.

Antique Chase - Haha, that makes me feel so much better that your daughter was scared too! This is the second time Lillie has completely freaked out over something in her room that doesn't seem scary to me at all - Kids are so funny that way!

Kat - that is so funny that you suggested that because I was hoping to do that but just haven't found a scenic photo I like enough to use in my stash. I think I am going to take some at my parents house this summer (they have one spot that is my favorite with a big tree swing and the barn in the background that will be perfect!)

Jason - "Otherwise looks great" - that might be the first somewhat nice comment you have ever posted on here. Are you softening in your old age? And that hoop is temporary - when we get her a nicer one it most likely will indeed be painted to match her room =)

Heather and Anne - my sister, Jamie made the scarf and we sold them in our shop this fall in several colors. They sold out quite quickly, though. We hopefully will have them available next fall again!

  45. First...your brother cracks me up! The rooms look awesome, I always doubted myself too when pregnant!!! As for the faux window, have you tried putting a poster or something with an outdoor scene behind it? Or maybe paint one yourself, whimsical and cute? you could also do some frosted glass or maybe add a cafe curtain? It all looks awesome and I LOVE the bball goal...that is soooo my daughter :) She will go for a mani/pedi then jump into a game of tackle football with the boys in the neighborhood. Bottom line, everything you do turns out awesome! I added some of Cooper's nursery pix to my fb album for you to check out :) Have a great weekend. Brandi

  53. I think you are very talented. I have to ask you how you attatched the branch in your daughters room to the wall. I have been wanting to do something similar for sometime now, but cannot figure out how I would make it look natural.(or at least not an eye sore.) Yours is beautiful! Do you have a picture of how it is attatched?

  56. Cherry Blossoms - I got the dress form on Ebay, actually! I had been wanting this gorgeous one from Pottery Barn Teen for FOREVER but it was out of my budget so I just got a basic one on Ebay and painted it Ballet White. Not quite as pretty as the PBT one, but it works!

  58. Ok, so after much deliberation I decided on Stormy Monday for the guest bathroom, I painted the first coat on Sat but after it dried I walked in and for some reason it looks purple/lilac...I thought maybe it was the lighting since that bathroom has no windows...so I changed the light bulbs...but it still looked the same. Then I waited until the next morning to look at it again and it STILL looks purple/lilac. I mean it's gray but with a lilac undertone. I wonder if the second coat will make it look more gray...??? I love the color on the paper...just not sure why my eyes are seeing purple...maybe it's a pregnant thing...LOL!!! Did you experience the same thing on the first coat??? Sorry to bug you again???

  59. I love that you used the gray walls--the pink accents make it fun. This is a sophisticated room, easy to grow up in.

  60. I am your newest follower! This room absolutely takes my breath away! Can you please tell me the color of the walls? Are they in the grey family? My daughters room is these same colors but I have yet to paint the walls. Thanks! And great job!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Esme - hmmm, that's weird. Mine doesn't have any purple/lilac in it! I know what you mean though. I went through about 10 different grays trying to find one that didn't. The first several I tried were all VERY purpley! That was why I was so happy with Stormy Monday because it was a true gray! How did it go after putting on the second coat?

Sommer - the wall color in Lillie's room is called London Fog and yes, it is a really pale gray. I have been really happy with it!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I love this room!! I have 3 girls and am always looking for inspiration and ideas. I love the branch idea...thanks for posting!

  63. Still lavender, and after doing a search for "stormy Monday looks lavender" guess what? I found lots of posts that had the same experience. Apparently grays can all come with different undertones, purple, blue, tan, green...So I am still looking for the perfect True Gray with no undertone. Not fun...I currently have about 10 colors up on my wall right now.
But thanks again for all your suggestions!

Just after exploring through the the web and finding tips that were not beneficial, I was thinking my entire life was done. Living without the answers to the issues you've solved through your website is a critical case, as well as the kind which may have badly affected my entire career if I hadn't come across your website. Your primary understanding and kindness in dealing with the whole thing was excellent. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't come upon such a subject like this. I can now relish my future. Thanks so much for the high quality and sensible help. I won't be reluctant to propose your blog to any person who desires guidelines about this matter.
