Our little Lola Wren turned one on April 22nd and this past Saturday we had a little party for her. The theme for this party was just kind of a simple mossy/earthy look and I knew I wanted to incorporate a little mini tree swing. I originally had hoped to have kind of a mid summer's night garden party under the tree swing at my parent's house. Unfortunately, as soon as I got to NH I realized the weather was most definitely not going to cooperate. And then I really didn't do as much for the party as I had planned and two of the projects I did do kind of went awry and didn't turn out like I wanted so instead we just kept it really simple. I am pretty sure Lola didn't care. =) Some day I would love to do a little something more with the whole tree swing theme. That was definitely my favorite little feature from this party.
We generally try to keep the cost of our parties under $50 so that means using a lot of items and accessories that we already own or making a lot of things. Thanks to the baby's breath poms I went a little over on this one. I will have a tutorial for those soon (with some tips on what not to do as well - these ones were dried up by the time of the party which was quite disappointing. I wish I had photographed them before - oh well, you learn something new every day, right?)
I also want to say a big thank you to my family for helping. Even though we kept it pretty simple it still was a lot of work making a little birdhouse, moss wreath, tissue paper flowers, tree swing, cake, cupcakes (two different kinds - poor Lola can't have dairy, wheat, soy or eggs so she had to have a "special" cupcake my mom made just for her), and other desserts and all of the setting up and then cleaning up. And thank you Jamie and Josh for hosting it at your home.
Anyway, here are the photos:
The straws and little candy cups are from The TomKat Studio.
The bird house as well as the nest and eggs on the side table and nest pillow are subtle nods to Lorelei Wren's middle name.
You can view some of our other parties here.
And here's a shot of the birthday girl. I will share a few more once I finish going through them.
Also, we have restocked our Elizabeth Placemats!

Oh that little cupcake swing just makes me giggle, it is so adorable. And now I am so regretting throwing out a bird house last month :( just a darling party. And the cake? Let's just say you could surround a car tire with piroulines and I would eat it. It looks divine. Happy Birthday sweet Lola!!
ReplyDeleteStunning Party!! I'm obsessed with the greenery branches used in all the table displays.. Are they real (kind) or faux??
ReplyDeleteThey are real! I just went out in to my parents woods and chose two different types so cut down. The ones on the little round table were from a white birch tree. The ones that the little swing is hanging from were just from a regular looking tree - I am not sure what kind it was - haha!
DeleteBeautiful, I admire how you can make simple items look like magazine photo shoots...and Lola is just precious...xo
ReplyDeletePerfect! She looks like a little rosebud!Fresh and pink and sweet.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Loved it! The cupcake swing was too sweet. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Melissa
As always you throw together the most beautiful decorations!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but notice, probably because I am on the hunt for some, but the window panels hanging in the background, do you know where I could find them?
Thanks so much!!
Thanks. I am pretty sure Jamie got them at Ballard Design a year or two ago.
DeleteHow adorable! I love it. And she is SUCH a cutie!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Happy belated birthday Lola! LOVE the shot of her!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful party Jennifer! Everything is so lovely and Lola is adorable. She looks like a beautiful little princess. The cake is gorgeous. What kind was it?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Allison! It was a layer of yellow cake then chocolate frosting, then a layer of chocolate cake and more frosting and then a layer of yellow cake again and then the whole thing was frosted. One of my favorite cakes. Poor Lola couldn't have it though. =(
DeleteJenni, I cannot believe she's already a year old! Where has the time gone??
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got to be with your NH family for Lola's birthday. Your photos are just gorgeous. I especially love the little "birdie" touches. Carolina wrens tend to make nests a lot around here, and they're just the most wonderful, busy little birds. :)
Jamie's house looks so beautiful! Y'all have talent just oozing out of your pores.
Happy Birthday Lola! your room looks beautiful - the swing is genius and I really love the greenery, makes the room look so fresh!

Oh my god how sweet... Lola looks like a little birthday princess all in her white. She's just beautiful! And, sounds like your little fairy princess has a sensitive system, no dairy, wheat etc... i have all kinds of food intolerances too, it's a pain for sure, but there are lots of good things out there now for people like us. Whole Foods is an awesome place to shop for that kind of thing. You must be doing everything right, she looks as healthy and bright eyed as can be. And... i'm pretty sure i'm in love with those straws and cups you used. How clever and tempting to put the marshmallows on top! Your sisters house looks gorgeous... and i love the little moss covered bird house. The idea about the swing is charming too. One day maybe ya'll can hang a real swing on a tree, and cover it with spring flowers and plop her right in it!

Happy Birthday Lola! I love her little crown. So cute. This has got to be the classiest first birthday party I've ever seen. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! What is that fantastic gray paint on the walls? I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It is Sparrow by Benjamin Moore. It is kind of a grayish/greenish color. Hard to describe but really beautiful in person!
DeleteI really love your presentation. Simple yet elegant.
ReplyDeleteSimply lovely!! I love the idea of the cookies (are they called Piroettes?) surrounding the outside of the cake. That's simply adorable!! (I'm filing it away for future reference.) Beautiful job as always.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy! Yes, that is what they are called. I love them!
DeleteLola looks absolutely beautiful in all white! I love babies in white - it really shows off their beautiful features. And that crown - oh so sweet! I hope she had a great birthday. The party looks gorgeous!

Everything looks fabulous! Love all the colors.....are you guys going to be selling the pillows with the black bird and fleurs design.... if not where did jamie get them?
ReplyDeleteThanks!Jamie made them. I am not sure where she got the fabric from. Possibly Fabric.com. I will try to remember to ask her.
DeleteOK THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks! No, my mom got it for her. I am pretty sure it's from the Gap.
ReplyDeletei looove your blog , you are such an inspiration, and your girls are beautiful, i was wondering if and how you made Lolas large L?
ReplyDeleteI just cut out a piece of foam type board in the shape of an L and then crinkled up cupcake liners and hot glued them on. I didn't use one, but I bet if you googled it or looked on Pinterest there is probably a tutorial out there for something similar- you might find it under "coffee filter tutorial" if you don't have any luck with searching cupcake liner tutorials.
DeleteHappy Birthday to Lola!! Everything looked beautiful Jennifer. Loved that little tree swing, so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI just love the concept of your party, happy birthday little angel you are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI have followed your blog for some time now but I don't think I have ever commented. This party is darling...I love your style! The colors are so soft and natural and fresh! Have you checked out www.shopsweetlulu.com for party supplies? Hands down, they have the cutest items, best selection and super fast turn-around! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI am just wondering where you got Lola's princess crown? It would be perfect for my little girl's 1st birthday :)
Thanks!
I made it! I have more details and the link to the tutorial I used in this post: http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/crown-sale-and-canvas-giveaway.html

ReplyDeleteCan you please, please tell us how to make the tissue paper flowers???
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful work!! Thanks for sharing.
You can find a tutorial for this type of flower here: http://www.designsponge.com/2012/02/diy-project-giant-paper-flowers-from-ruche.html
DeleteI dont get it, there is 12 picture of the same thing, where are the party pictures?
ReplyDeleteThese are the decorating pictures from her party.
DeleteJust found you in Pinterest. Happy birthday to your little angel. Everything is beautiful! May I ask where you got the wing chair slipcovers? I have a similar pair and want fitted slipcovers like yours. Thank you
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! This is my sister's house and those chairs are unfortunately not slipcovered. They are upholstered and are from Ballard Designs.
DeleteI was wondering where you got the metal vase from and also if you knew the measurements of the wire bird cloche?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled on your blog from Pinterest and LOVE your style! What a sweet party and decorations. I was wondering where the metal wrought iron vase (the one with the sprigs of branches and swing hanging) was purchased...I am trying to find a similar vase and would love any info. Thank you, blessings in your day!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The vase is actually my sister's, but I believe it is from White Home Market in Wilton, NH.
