Our Sort-of Entryway and It is Well With My Soul

We don't really have an entry-way in our home. You basically open the front door and are in the living room. When we first moved in though, we tried to use the small wall behind the front door and treated it sort of like an entry-way. It functions fine, but I have some ideas for making it more of a true entry-way space...someday... For now though, we have an old bench that opens up and we can store bags, extra shoes, outdoor chalk for the girls, tennis balls, and all sorts of random things. I'm not a huge fan of how the bench looks but it's practical and until I decide for sure what I want to to here it is fine. On the sign above we always hang a couple of Lillie and Lola's sweaters/jackets that make it easy to grab when we are headed out the door in a hurry and then we keep most of their shoes in the basket next to the bench.

We also wanted to let you know we have a new "It is well..." pillow cover in our shop:

I hope you all are having a wonderful week! I'll be back next with a new chalkboard print and download.

  2. Hello,

I love your blog and style! A while back you mentioned you were going to paint your master bedroom. Did you ever decide on a color?

    1. I chose Revere Pewter but have held off on painting it for a couple of reasons. At this point, because of those other reasons I may just leave it be for a little longer.

  3. Love the new pillow. Do you mind sharing where the sign above the bench is from? Is that a new coffee table in the living room? Just love your style and your house is beautiful.

    1. Thanks! The sign is from White Home Collections in NH. We just moved the coffee table from our family room into the living room and moved our old slipcovered ottoman into the family room.

  4. I remember having the same dilemma when with our first home and two little ones... the jackets and shoes, the toys and 'needed' things to play . I had a little apple red cabinet with housed it all as we did not have an entryway either. But we made it work.
Now we have an entryway... that gathers shoes, dog leashes, flash lights (for night walk w/ Vic) jackets.... Yikes!!!
I just luv your style Jennifer!!!
    You make it seem effortless.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl! The blanket is from Ikea - just $19! And mine had a hole in it (it was the last one so I got it anyway) so I think they gave me a discount on top of that but it's been a while and my memory isn't the best - haha!

    1. Thank you so much for your purchase, Molly! I hope you will like it! The blanket is from IKEA. I got so excited when I saw it I got it even though it has a hole in it. It was the last one at the IKEA I went to but I am pretty sure they restocked them.

  11. Do you mind sharing what kind of wood you used to make the 24x24 photo's going up your stairway? Also, where you bought it? Was it precut to that size? I want to make some using ur tutorial :)

    Thanks,

    1. I don't remember what type of wood it was, but I got it at Lowe's and yes, they were precut to the 24 by 24 size! Hope that helps!

  14. Jenni, our old house in Ohio was the same way - you walked right through our front door and into our family room. I loved it because there wasn't any wasted space, but also found it tough because we needed a landing spot for all of our things. We had a similar setup - yours looks adorable! I think it's great use of the space. We have that same basket in our mudroom for the girls' shoes . . . AND I think the girls have those same jackets - haha! Love your new pillow!
