Our Arhaus Sofa

Our new Emory Slipcovered sofa from Arhaus arrived and we absolutely LOVE it. I have never seen my husband so excited about a piece of furniture. It is easily the most comfortable piece of furniture we own. You just sink right into it. I love that it's slipcovered and we can wash it when needed and I especially love the size of it. It's huge! All four of us can snuggle up on it and there's still plenty of extra room. And I particularly am happy with the fact that along with being so comfortable it's also has such a sophisticated look to it.

We went with the deso sand color and love how it looks against the dark chocolate colored walls and we love how our Grand Plaza print works so well above it.

Sometimes it's fun switching up the layout of the room. When we decided to paint the walls dark and go ahead and have the trim painted white and then starting putting the furniture back in it seems like it might be a good idea to switch the furniture layout a bit. We want to move a TV in here onto the wall opposite the fireplace and moving the furniture this way will work much better for that.

It turns out this sofa is so incredibly comfortable that Jon suggested we move it into the family room. Seeing how this was the first time in history he has ever ever suggested moving a piece of furniture I didn't argue so you may eventually see it in our family room. =)

My computer has been acting up a little bit so I couldn't finish up the post I was working on so I thought instead I just have some peony pictures for today.

Strawberry Pie Recipe

The first time I went to Jon's parent's home his mother made a strawberry pie. I am not really a pie person, but this pie was absolutely delicious and has been a summer favorite of mine ever since. She shared the recipe with me and we have enjoyed making it every year during strawberry season. It's really easy and such a fun dessert this time of year. And the red strawberries against the blue and white HomeGoods runner has "summery" feel to it.

The girls and I made one last week and we thought we would share the recipe with you all:

Crust:

1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup + 1 Tbsp. shortening
2-3 Tbsp. cold water

Mix together and press into pie dish
(We've also used that pre-made Pillsbury dough before too when we've been in a hurry and it works great as well)
Cook at 425 degrees for first 5 minutes then down to 375 degrees for 5-10 minutes

Now place between 2-4 cups of sliced strawberries in the crust

Glaze:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
3 Tbsp. cornstarch
4 Tbsp. strawberry jello powder

Mix dry ingredients
Add water
Cook over medium to high heat until mixture is clear and starts to boil
Let cool a few minutes then pour over strawberries
Refrigerate for 3-4 hours
Enjoy!

We are so grateful for all of those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom!

"Look At The Sea..."

One of my favorite L. M. Montgomery quotes is this one, so we figured it would make the perfect print for summer!  We are offering it in our shop in both a navy blue print as well as a chalkboard print version (scroll down for those photos).

The girls love coming in here and seeing their horse picture from HomeGoods.

"When I Saw You I Fell In Love, And You Smiled Because You Knew" Sign

We've got another new sign that will be available in our shop Thursday morning at 10 AM EST. This one not only is fun to display in your own home, it also makes a wonderful wedding gift! We used the quote "When I saw you I fell in love and you smiled because you knew" by Arrigo Boito in white ink on a black background and it's framed in a gray stained wood. One of my favorite recent finds were these baskets from HomeGoods. They make a great place to store shoes and other miscellaneous items so that they are still handy but the entryway stays organized and tidy.

We moved the shoes for the product photos above but normally the girls keep their favorite little boots from Joyfolie here on top of these baskets. The baskets from HomeGoods work perfectly in here. We keep the girls shoes in here and it's nice and easy for them to grab them on their way down the stairs each morning.
