Some New Prints - "For I am Not Afraid of Storms..." and "I love her..."

I hope you all had a nice weekend! I am hoping to get some more house photos taken today if the sun decides to pop out but for now I wanted to just quickly share a couple of our newest prints. This first one has a quote from one of my favorite authors, Louisa May Alcott, "I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship."

And then we also have this one by another favorite of mine, F. Scott Fitzgerald, "I love her, and that is the beginning and end of everything." This one would make a great Valentine's gift!

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

Our Laundry Room Makeover

I am excited to show you our newly updated laundry room! I am especially excited about the new tile floor from our sponsor, Joss and Main. I have been a huge fan of this tile for a while now but was a little nervous to pull the trigger, but now am so glad that I did. I love the impact it has in here and love walking by this room every day (it would be a bit of a stretch to say I love doing laundry - ha!)

I have looked through my before shots over and over and can't find any of the laundry room. I was sure I took at least one so if I finally find it I'll add it to this post. Basically it was the original linoleum floors that once were white but had faded to kind of a creamy brown color, the original dark trim and brownish beige walls. The first thing we did was have the old floor ripped out and the new tile installed and the cabinets moved higher up on the wall (they were very oddly placed quite low). After that I got to work painting. I painted the walls, trim, windows and cabinets. Then we had the counter built and I stained and painted it (all paint and stain color info can be found in the source list).

Once that was all done it was time for the fun part - adding in the finishing touches. I hung some pictures that we had used on our gallery wall in our last house and some baskets and jars we also already had. And then I added a shade from Lowe's to the window to add a little warmth.

There's an older sink over on this side. I love having a sink in here! I'd like to eventually update it with a newer one but for now it's just nice having a sink in our laundry room (especially for soaking flowers and seeded eucalyptus when I get home from Trader Joe's - ha!) ! We hung our ironing board above it so it's nice and easy to grab (the iron is in the cabinets) and then hung a couple more pictures from our old gallery wall.

You can see out into the hallway where we added some beadboard wallpaper and hung one of our signs.

I still need to change out the light fixture in here and the hallway so will share some more pictures once I do that (the ones I am planning on ordering are on back order) but it's nice to have a space feel almost finished!

Our $62 Mini Bathroom Makeover

The master bathroom in our new home had just been completely renovated, so although we will be adding some personal touches it is nice not to have to tackle that project. However, the other two bathrooms we plan on doing some remodeling to. One of them we plan on remodeling in February or March and then will probably hold off a little while before tackling the second one. I had originally been planning on doing this downstairs bathroom first because it's the one that everyone sees, but after giving it a quick mini makeover it has made a big difference so now I am leaning towards doing the girls' bathroom upstairs.

(Sorry in advance for the not so great photos - this room gets zero natural light so it makes photographing it  pretty tricky.)

While I am deciding on whether we first tackle the girls' bathroom upstairs or this one downstairs I decided to give this bathroom a quick mini makeover because the flowery tile mural kind of drove me crazy every time I walked by it, plus it's the bathroom everyone uses when they visit. Because we will eventually be remodeling this bathroom I didn't want to spend much money. My goal was to spend under $100 so I was excited to end up at $62!

First I bought a inexpensive shower tension rod for around $10. Then I found some 96" curtain panels at HomeGoods. They were $19.99 for a pack of two panels. I could have gotten away with just two but I wanted it to look nice and full so I ended up buying two packs. I hung it high - right up to the ceiling to help completely hide the shower. Then the only other item I purchased was the little rug. I loved the navy and gray colors in it and it was just $12. Once I had the curtains and the rug, even though it looked fine with the blue walls I thought it would be prettier against a really dark wall. I had some Nightfall on hand so used that (obviously if I had to buy paint it would have brought my cost up a bit more but I still would have come in under $100). I have to say, painting a bathroom is my least favorite! Ha, every time I paint one I cringe the whole time. But the nice thing is it usually goes really quickly!

For the finishing touches I just used things we already owned and hadn't found a spot for yet in our new house. I love the mirror in here!

A Peek at a Few More In Progress Spaces in Our New Home

I have been busy painting and painting and painting over here and so am therefore really behind on blogging. I actually took all of these photos in this post back in December - haha! So don't mind the wreaths in the dining room pictures. They have actually all been packed away for a couple of weeks now!

This house I am approaching a little different than our last one.  In our last house I  more or less tackled one room at a time (with a little bit of jumping around as I waited on different things), but for this house I just wanted to get all of the painting done and over with right away so that is what I have been doing just about every single day and the end is in sight! So, I know I have been definitely slacking off on posting, but I promise I have been busy - I have painted the entryway (twice actually, thanks to a  can of paint that got mixed wrong, lucky me - ha!), dining room, living room, the kitchen and family room walls, the kitchen trim, the downstairs back hallway, wet bar cabinets, the laundry room walls, trim, window, cabinets and counter, office, downstairs bathroom, master bedroom and upstairs hallway and tons and tons of doors.  I hired someone to paint the trim in the office, family room and playroom which was so nice!  I am hoping to finish up the upstairs bathrooms and doors in the next week or so and then I will be done and can get started on the more fun parts! And yes, my arms are numb - ha!

Here are a few shots from the kitchen and family room. I will share more detailed shots and more angles once we finish up some more of the projects in here (like the fireplace mantel, and wet bar area  which we are using as a coffee station). The kitchen table is from Joss and Main but we are still waiting on the base to arrive (right now the top is balanced on a side table we had). Once it arrives I will take better pictures of it because the wood is beautiful! We are using our porch chairs in here now while we decide whether we want to go with upholstered, wood or metal chairs in here. Certain members of our family have stronger opinions on kitchen chairs than you would expect - haha! The light fixture is from Painted Fox and I love it! I am not sure this is where it will stay (I have another spot I think it will look really pretty in, but I am keeping it in here while I decide).

I found this rug at HomeGoods and thought it would go nicely here. I would have preferred it a little larger but I like how the colors and pattern work in here plus it is a nice cozy rug for this area so I am okay with the fact it's a tiny bit smaller than I had hoped to find.

This bay window is my favorite part of this room! We are adding a window seat where the chairs are later this month - I can't wait!

The rest of this room had wood trim and brownish tan walls so lightening it up made such a huge difference. The cabinets had already been painted though. Although I plan on painting them a darker color eventually I am really loving the color they are (which based on some paint cans I found I think is Lampblack by Benjamin Moore) so I may keep them this color for quite a while. I love how Deann's painting looks here with the door color and cabinet color!

And here are some pictures of the dining room so far. I still can't decide on wallpaper in here so I just painted the walls a color I thought would go with the family room one for now although I don't think I will keep them this color. When I took these pictures back in December our chandelier had not arrived yet but it has now and I love it! I will try to take some new pictures soon. We also have switched the chairs around since this picture was taken switched out the mirror, and of course taken down the Christmas wreaths - ha!

All of the pillows in this picture are from Motif Pillows - my new favorite Etsy shop! They have so many gorgeous pillows to choose from and are beautifully made!

You can see into our living room in from this view. You can find a more detailed post on that here.
