Progress in the Upstairs Hallway

I finally took photos of the hallway upstairs. We finished painting it back in the fall (maybe late October?) and I just sadly took pictures last week. I was kind of holding off because I was waiting to find a bookshelf type piece for the top of the stairs but at this point am giving up on waiting on that. I did finally get the coordinating light fixture for up here though last week!

I know I took before photos of the hall but I cannot for the life of me find them. Here is one random shot where you can at least see the wallpaper that was here. We had it removed and then I got to work priming and painting the trim. Jamie was here visiting back in the fall when I was working on this and helped with the walls. Because the thermostat was hung annoyingly in the middle of this wall I just added a basic shelf (one of the ones that I had removed a couple months ago from our kitchen walls) and leaned two photos against it so we still have easy access to changing the thermostat if necessary but it helps hide it most of the time.

This is the light fixture we got for the top of the stairs.

You can see the one at the bottom of the stairs here that it coordinates with. There are a few angles where you can see both but I couldn't get get a good shot.

There is no natural light up in this hallway unless I open the doors so it makes it quite difficult to photograph especially seeing how I need to purchase a new tripod and still haven't gotten around to getting it yet .

I will try to take some better angled shots once we get the bathroom finished that you also see from this hall. I still plan on adding a gallery type wall going down the stairs and would maybe like to add some type of wall treatment for added interest up here but at least it's a lot brighter feeling up here and not so dark and gloomy.

We have another new chalkboard design with the first two lines of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's "How Do I Love Thee?" poem available in our shop! We have it available in two options - one has the word love in pink:

and all the text in white

I also wanted to introduce our newest sponsor, 11 Magnolia Lane!

11 Magnolia Lane is a beautiful blog run by three lovely ladies, Amy, Christy, and Terry!  You can read more about their blogging journey here.  There blog is full of all sorts of things from parties, tutorials, recipes and beautiful makeovers. One of their kitchen's was even featured in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine.

They have tours of all their lovely homes on their blog that you really should check out. This historic home that Christy used to live in just makes me swoon.

I'll hopefully be back tomorrow with the progress we've made in our upstairs hallway.

The Wire Chandelier and Some Pops of Pink for Valentine's

One of the items we get asked about if it made the move and where it went is the wire candle chandelier that was above our dining room table in our last house. Well, yes, it did indeed make the move and has been sitting out on our porch in a corner for the last six months. The plan is to eventually hang it out there above the table but we are still making some decisions on the flow of things out there (we'd like to add another door so we can add a small patio off the right side of it) so until then I am holding off on hanging it. I figured it might be fun to add it in here even though it's not ideal or a good long-term spot for it. Eventually I want to hang something here above the table to replace the light we removed (it's the one place left in this room that could use a light) and even have a light fixture in mind, but I am holding off on that based on a couple other decisions we are waiting on. So, in the meantime I figured instead of this just sitting out on the porch I might as well hang it in here, even if it's just for a month or two until we get the porch figured out.

We also added some pink in the living room. The girls wanted more pink and seeing how I don't see the pink living permanently in our house besides in their room  (even though I do think it's fun to have pops of it sometimes) I just moved the pillows from the guest room down here and we moved some pillows from our study up into the guest bedroom (and I LOVE how they look in there - I took some pictures and will add those soon) and added some pillows from the attic back into the study. That's part of what I love so much about decorating with a neutral background. It is so easy to move things from room to room and change things up a bit. They love it down here but I think come February 15th I'll be moving the pink pillows up to their room. =)

Now that Trader Joe's has tulips again and they are just $1.99 I am back to having lots and lots of tulips in the house. =)

The little jar was a candle from Target but once it was finished I decided to keep it as a vase.

The pillows are both from Target.

My mother-in-law got me this beautiful marble board and also a matching rolling pin for my birthday. They are so pretty I am almost nervous to use them.

Here's a little reminder of what this room looked like when we moved in back at the end of June.

A Little More Progress in the Guest Bedroom and some Valentine's Cards

Even though it was freezing cold here and the ground was covered in snow, the sun actually came out yesterday so I FINALLY got a bunch of photos taken. Six hundred and forty-four to be exact. I am weeding my way through them and thought I would start with this guest bedroom. Since I last showed you this room back in December we've added a few more touches in here to warm it up a bit. I found an 8 by 10 rug online for 70% off that included free shipping a few weeks ago so I was quite excited about that. And I got the roman shades at Lowe's for just $20 a set. I really love them and they were so easy to install. They literally only took about ten minutes. I went back to get more so I could add them to several other windows in our house that are in need of some blinds but discovered they were discontinued.  I got another set for our master bedroom but that was it.

Now that the other bedrooms are finally starting to take shape there has been quite a bit of furniture moving around going on. I ended up moving the mirrored chest that was in this room into the other extra bedroom (which I took pictures of yesterday too so will share those soon) and in it's place put the dresser that we used in our living room at our old house and I moved these nightstands that used to be in our master bedroom at our old house in here. I am pretty sure both of those items are going to stay put in here now.  I moved the large lamp that was in here into the other guest room and then added these matching lamps. I also got a few bright pink pillows from Target per Lillie and Lola's request. They are just temporary and will eventually go in their bedroom but it's kind of fun for now to have the pop of color. I have something in mind for what I am going to do for more year round pillows in here once I move the pink on out.

Here's a little reminder of what the room looked like back in October:

I am also excited to introduce our new Happy Valentine's Day cards. They are available in our shop now:
