I spent almost four hours writing this post last night in a hotel room only to discover it wasn't saving properly and I lost it all, every single word (and most of the images too!) So, now this post is going to contain a lot fewer words than it originally had and will just contain the downstairs and then tomorrow or Wednesday I will post the upstairs.
Between moving and a ton of traveling for the holidays the last two months have been an absolute whirlwind. I am so looking forward to getting back into a routine and truly getting settled into our new home. We have shared a few posts of our new home (the entryway, living room and master bedroom) but before we share any more spaces we thought it would be nice to do one final wrap-up type post of our last home with all of the before and afters and all of the source lists in one place.
First off is our kitchen and family room! This is one long room and the kitchen side of it was one of our biggest projects. To keep costs down we split it up into two phases and kept the existing layout and simply removed the set of cabinets over the peninsula to open the room up and then painted the rest of the cabinets. We then added new hardware, appliances and lighting. And then a year later for phase two we replaced the counters, sink, faucet and added a subway tile backsplash.
Here are some before and afters of the kitchen and family room:

Next up is our dining room. The first year we painted the walls and trim and added the chandelier. This year we painted the walls a darker color, built a new dining room table and shelving system and added some new chairs to the side and ends and then then next year we painted the walls white and added a few other touches like a large wooden cupboard which is one of my favorite pieces we own. Hall Closet
And here is our downstairs hall closet. I wish I had some before shots of this. It was such a grungy beat up looking space. I don't think the walls had been even painted in over 30 years. Adding some fun wallpaper and basic organization pieces helped tidy it up quite a bit!

Well, that's it for now seeing how I am out of time. I only had an hour instead of the four that I spent last night. I hope that you all have an amazing Monday!
Loved seeing all the beautiful transformations to your old home. You made a swan out of an ugly duckling for sure. I know your knew home will be just as amazing. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteKris
I have been following your posts/transformations for some time now...love the end results! (Curious...how have you found the rug (damask) in your family room to hold up? I've seen lots of commentary re: shedding/'fuzz balls' happening with similar rugs....) I so look forward to following your journey in your new home and wish you nothing but happy memories in the years ahead!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Jenni says that one didn't shed at all (it is a thinner rug with a raised design). The original wool one she had there shed quite a bit the first month (which is normal for wool rugs), but they never had any issues with it after that. They later moved it to there guest room when they found this one!
DeleteHope this helps!
-Jason
An amazing and inspirational transformation! Such wonderful spaces created with great vision. I love the restoration and refreshing, and I'm sure the new owners are greatly blessed by it. Looking forward to Part Two and to the reveal of your new home. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteYou create beauty which I experience as profound and moving.
ReplyDeleteLoved the kitchen. Thinking about painting my cabinets white. How difficult was it to paint the cabinets. People have indicated that it may be more cost effective to just replace them. I'm at a lose. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWait wait a second, Jenn- you lived in Colonial Williamsburg, then moved, and now you moved AGAIN? Is that what I am reading correctly? I was sorta absent for a while from blogdom - I became a grandma and life changed in such a wonderful way- but trying to catch up and need to get this straight.
ReplyDeleteSo, if you've moved - where to? What's up? Or if you haven't and this is just putting the changes all together in a nice write-up, it makes sense. Just trying to make sure I know.
These before and afters are amazing. You must thrive on stress though if you have moved again, seriously.
What size are your pendants ???
ReplyDeleteHi! I believe they are Medium.
