Every Leaf Speaks Bliss To Me.... Our Newest Emily Bronte Sign

Well this week we have not just one, but two new signs. We shared the first one yesterday here on our blog and today we wanted to share the second one which will be available tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 10 EST.  This "Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree..." excerpt from an Emily Brontë poem has always been one of my favorites. I originally wrote this on a chalkboard in our last house  several years ago and then last year I rewrote it for a print. We thought it would be nice to make it as a sign as well, so this year we did it in gold ink painted on a soft ivory background with wood trim.

And here is the chalkboard print version of it:

"And Let There Be For Every Pulse a Thanksgiving, and For Every Breath a Song..."

Wow! I can't believe it is officially fall! Oh how I love this time of year as the mornings get cooler and cooler and the leaves all start changing. I just wanted to pop in today to let you know that tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 10 EST we will be listing the first batch of our newest sign. I absolutely love this quote by Konrad Von Gesner and think this is such a wonderful sentiment to have hanging in your home not only in the fall but also year round.

We also have this quote available as a print which is available now!

And you can find this beautiful silver serving piece as part of our curated collection over at Painted Fox.

Birch Lane - Entryway Organization

As we get ready for the girls to head back to school we've been doing lots and lots of organization around here. We've been cleaning out closets and baskets and all sorts of storage places to get them ready for the new school year. One of the spaces we worked on making a little more functional for us  this past weekend was our entryway. We received this gorgeous Wetherly Cabinet  from Birch Lane and I have to say I am THRILLED with it. It is beautifully built and so functional. The top drawer is for Lillie and the bottom for Lola. Right now we have their school supplies in them, but once school starts the plan is to keep all of their papers and things that come home with them each day organized in each of their drawers. Because it's actually a filing cabinet it can hold folders so I will probably use about 1/4 of each drawer with folders to keep their different paperwork organized and easy to find and then will use the other 3/4 as more of a regular drawer to store all the miscellaneous items that they seem to acquire about a week into the school year. =) I get so happy when we find a piece that is so pretty and so practical and helps me stay organized! And one of the best parts about ordering from Birch Lane - they offer FREE shipping on all orders over $49 - even furniture! And their customer service is wonderful. We've added several pieces from them to our new home including the rug in our family room and the pendants in our kitchen!

We also added this adorable retriever bookend (and the other one is in our den - I'll share pictures of that soon) that I love, along with a beautiful burlap covered box to help store things as well. I love the nailhead trim on the box. It comes in a set of two and the other one is in our family room and we are using it to store our remotes.

That's it for today's post. We've got some more fun posts coming this next week including details on our curated sale, a cupcake stand the girls and I built, and another fun storage and organization post with Birch Lane!  I hope you all have a fabulous weekend and here is the source list for this space:

"When I Saw You I Fell In Love, And You Smiled Because You Knew" Sign

We've got another new sign that will be available in our shop Thursday morning at 10 AM EST. This one not only is fun to display in your own home, it also makes a wonderful wedding gift! We used the quote "When I saw you I fell in love and you smiled because you knew" by Arrigo Boito in white ink on a black background and it's framed in a gray stained wood. One of my favorite recent finds were these baskets from HomeGoods. They make a great place to store shoes and other miscellaneous items so that they are still handy but the entryway stays organized and tidy.

We moved the shoes for the product photos above but normally the girls keep their favorite little boots from Joyfolie here on top of these baskets. The baskets from HomeGoods work perfectly in here. We keep the girls shoes in here and it's nice and easy for them to grab them on their way down the stairs each morning.

Finally - A Gallery Wall For Our Stairway

As soon as I finished painting this hallway a year a half ago (which was pretty much one of my least favorite painting jobs in this whole house because it involved all those annoying spindles and me balancing on a ladder on top of scaffolding!) I knew I wanted to do a gallery wall going up the stairs. However, gallery walls on stairways always seemed a little daunting to me plus I couldn't decide on what look I wanted to go with - a mix of different style frames, all black frames, all white frames, a mix of sizes or all the same size...you get the idea, so I kept putting it off.

I finally decided I just needed to pull the trigger though and do SOMETHING because even though we have photos sprinkled throughout the house I missed having some of my favorite memories out where we could see them every day. My parent's had a gallery wall going up their staircase filled with all sorts of family photos in their last house and my grandmother had photos all over the walls in one of her rooms and I always loved being able to look at all the photographs and see so many different memories every time I climbed the stairs.

Because we went with a mix of frames in the den/study for the gallery wall we did in there, I ended up deciding to keep this more simple.  Plus you can see this wall from the front door, the dining room, the upstairs and downstairs hallway, the upstairs bathroom and two bedrooms so it seemed to make the most sense to keep the frames as simple as possible so it flowed nicely with all of the rooms you could see it from. To keep the cost down I went with the Ribba frames from IKEA. All in all I was pretty happy with them. My only real complaint would be that the large 20" by 20" frames are more like shadow boxes and stick out further than the rest of them and that kind of drives me a little crazy but that's probably just because I have a little OCD.

Because I had no idea how many frames I would need to order and what sizes I used the back of some old wrapping paper I had had for years and never really liked and cut out a million different pieces of the different sizes the Ribba frames came in and started playing around with how to place them. As you can see I wasn't very precise in how I cut them - I was just trying to get a general idea. Ultimately, I am so glad I did this but I am not going to lie, it was pretty time consuming and kind of a pain in the neck. It definitely saved me the trouble of ordering too many or not enough frames though and helped when it came time to hang the real frames by just kind of hammering through the paper in the spot I wanted the nails and then ripping the paper down and hanging up the real frame. So, although it was annoying it was definitely worth it and I would do it again.

Once that was done I wrote down all the size photos I would need and then used some that I already had in the correct size and then ordered the rest of the prints in the right sizes.

This angle looks the worst in photos - it actually doesn't look as crooked in real life - ha! I mean it's definitely NOT perfect, but it looks really crooked in these pictures because of the lens I had to use for this angle. It warps angles a bit which is especially frustrating when trying to photograph something like this - ha!

And as you can see in that last picture we have a new sign! It will be available in our shop later this month!
