  2. In our new home? We haven't posted any real photos yet but it is just a basic white - I am not sure the name. I have tried to find out through our realtor but no luck so far. We just kept the white that was here when we moved in because it had been freshly painted and we went ahead and painted the trim and doors and the cabinets. We will be painting over the white in the rest of the house though.

  8. I stumbled across your gorgeous house while buying one of your chalkboard downloads this week. Your before is our current house - lots of wood trim! We are debating about painting it (it is very thick, high quality molding with architectural details to it that all the realtors and decorators have made us swear never to paint - sigh - but it is dark). Love your juxtaposition of the gray and white trim but how do you stop and end in a room? Are all your doors black? If so, how did you stop at doorjambs? Are there three colors together in rooms where you have gray trim on one side and Simply White on the other and a black door? Yours look so seamless but I worry ours would just look incomplete. Thanks so much if you get this and answer!

    1. Thanks, Shannon! The only room that we have the gray trim in is the large kitchen/family room area. It's pretty separate from all of the other rooms, so fortunately we didn't really have to worry about where to stop or start it. On that side of the door frame I painted gray and on the other side (the hall side) we did white. I don't mind it being different and I think it adds a little bit of interest. Its not a look everyone would be comfortable with though. Someday I may paint the gray to white, but for now we like it how it is.

  9. How do you juxtapose the trim from gray to white so seamlessly? I would not know where to stop/start if I changed trim colors, but yours looks so good!

  12. Love following your blog! You're such a design inspiration for me, I have very similar taste when decorating so I love popping in and seeing what new ideas and décor you have added. I also just moved into my new home a few months back and can understand what it is like to have empty walls and rooms that are still in need of a makeover. Looking forward to every new post!

  13. I am in the process of redoing our kitchen and it looks similar to yours. I am struggling with the hardware on my white cabinets. Did you use bronze or silver hardware. I can't tell from the picture. It looks like bronze, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks!

    1. Hi! Our hardware actually isn't bronze or silver. It was called something different, but I can't remember what exactly. Sorry!

  14. I want to start by saying that I think your house is just beautiful. I love just pouring over the pictures and getting ideas.

My first question is, do you ever regret painting the doors black? I am seriously considering a color scheme much like yours and really want to paint the doors black but it feels like such a drastic change.
I was also noticing that your girls' room has white doors on the inside. Did you paint the outside of their door black? A black door would not work very well in my daughter's room but I didn't know if it would look funny being painted different colors.
Finally, my cabinets are a cream color and my husband refuses to allow them to be painted at this point(they are only 7 years old), but how well do your painted cabinets hold up? I really want grey walls but I don't know if they'll look alright next to cream colored cabinets(walls are currently dark beige). I'm afraid they'll look yellow next to grey so I really want to paint them white.
You have amazing talent and I admire all of the work you do on your home to make it lovely.
    Thank you,
    Heidi

    1. Thanks, Heidi! Yes - I am really really happy with our black doors and would do it again in a heartbeat! One side of the girls door is black and one side is white because theirs was one of the first rooms I painted when we moved in, and I was unsure at that time if I wanted to pull the trigger on the black. At some point though I may paint the other side of it black but it doesn't really bother me having it two colors right now. Our painted cabinets are holding up quite well. My sister is actually having a very similar situation as you. Her cabinets (which are about 4-5 years old) are a creamy color that looks nice with her brown walls but not that she wants to change her wall color all of the samples are making the cabinets appear yellowish. She also is debating whether or not to paint her cabinets white. Our cabinets were so old and dated when we moved in that it was an easy decision to paint them, but it is definitely more nerve-wracking to paint new ones!

If they're from Lowes, do you know the brand and color? We're in the market for some new window treatments and they're such an investment that I want to make sure to like what I buy! Thank you!

I have changed the front room and have planking in the front room that surrounds the one wall where the wallpaper is, I am going for a farmhouse kind of feeling lol, So far I have used Chelsey Grey about the planking (it goes 2/3rds up and that's painted in Dove White by B.M too. You have inspired me to keep going

I have two quick questions and would be so grateful if you could answer them for me. First off where did you get the beautiful bamboo looking blinds in your dining room and what are they called? Also we have a tremendous amount of trim, bookshelves and kitchen cabinets we want to paint. Did you brush or spray your wood and is there a post on details how you did it? Thank you so much!!!

  41. YOUR HOUSE IS AMAZING! It's the all-over color scheme I've been looking for!! We are about to buy our first house and I am so excited now to paint & decorate!! ONE QUESTION: How did you come to the decision to use the ever-so-popular Gray Owl only in your linen closet? Do you know something I should also know about how it fills larger spaces? I ask because it's one of my final contenders and I want to be aware of any pitfalls before going too much farther down that path. I suspect it's a little too muddy/greenish for our place. I am excited to try Moonshine as a good halfway point between Gray Owl and Horizon. Do you find that it serves in that way? THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting so much detail about all the beautiful work you've done on your home! :) :) :)

Unfortunately without being able to see the listing I can't get any of the info for you - we got ours from Wayfair. However, I know that Ballard Design sells ones with very similar (maybe even the exact same) dimensions that looks almost identical and Arhaus sells one that is very similar but a little bit taller but has the exact same look to it.
