Chocolate Cake and Chalk Pens

I saw that quote on Pinterest not to long ago (from someecards.com) and it made me smile. Although, it probably wasn't the best thing for me to write on this tray that I keep in our kitchen, seeing how I am trying to get rid of those last few Lola pounds. =) Actually, I have finally worked out three days in a row. I went on a nice long walk with my aunt and cousin on Saturday morning and went running Sunday and Monday. So maybe, just maybe, despite my sweet tooth, I will be able to comfortably wear my old jeans again. I can get them all on - I just can't move in them - haha!

A couple of weeks ago I helped out my friend Lindsey write on some chalkboards for her wedding. She had some chalk pens for me to use and I absolutely fell in love with them! They are so amazing. I couldn't believe how fabulously they worked. I just ordered two myself.

This is the actual chalk pen I used.

I have been busy working on a fun summer project for the girls that I will have a tutorial for. I am hoping I will get it finished in the next day or two so I can photograph it. It is turning out to be a little bit bigger of a project than I thought it was going to be. I am praying I don't ruin it. Haha!

I hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday!

  1. I absolutely agree with the sentiment, especially looking at that cake! And now I am going to order some chalk pens for my recently made chalkboards. Your photography (and whole blog) is stunning. I'm a new follower.

  2. Love the quote! My favorite: The perfect diet, a cookie in each hand!
Your exquisite handwriting is beyond perfect! I wish you taught a class, I would be the first to sign up! Amazing!
I know why Lindsey ask YOU to write on her chalkboards. Will you be sharing pics of the wedding?
Thank you for the chalk marker tip. Have a beautiful week! Enjoy!!

    1. I will be sharing a few. That was when I first started feeling crummy so although I had planned on taking hundreds and hundreds of pictures I only ended up taking a handful which I am soooo disappointed about!

Hope you have a lovely weekend - or almost weekend! =)

  3. Do these have a fine point compared to regular chalk? Writing looks awesome and so does the cake!

    1. They do have a fine point! Actually they come in several different options, but the one I used was a pretty fine point.

  4. Very cool! Of course you have nice handwriting...mine is illegible, shoulda been a doctor. I went to order some markers but the shipping is so much, equal to the cost of the 3 pens I wanted to get...hoping to find it in a store like Michaels so I can skip the shipping.

    1. I ordered mine off of of Amazon. Still not cheap - I got two for $16 including shipping but I do enough chalk projects that I figured it was worth the splurge!

    2. Amy, I found a pack at Michaels and I think it was originally about $15 for 4, but they always have coupons on their website, so I got them 40% off. Not too bad.

  7. I am so glad to hear you say you have weight left I lose from Lola. 3 years later and I still have 8 lbs to lose. From Evy! It's the most stubborn weight ever!!! I'll lose some then it comes right back, ugh. Course I'm sure he fact that I'm nearing FORTY *gulp* doesn't help. ;( big gigs friend. Your handwriting is amazing! Xoxo

  8. Your handwriting is unbelievable! Everything looks so pretty and yummy! I have tried the markers but have discovered they leave behind marks that can't be removed. I've heard other bloggers say the same thing. If you don't have this trouble, I'd love to hear your secret.

    1. Hey Tammy! I haven't had that trouble yet, but I change out my chalkboards pretty often. If I do have any problem with it I will let you know.

  9. Well I have to admit that when I am writing on my chalkboard wall I now have your blog up trying to mimic your beautifully amazing handwriting! And that quote is hilariously perfect!!

  10. love the tray and the quote! I used a chalk pen on a very similar silver tray spray painted with chalk paint. A word of warning: I left my design on (our monogram) for a year, and when I went to wipe it off, it will not come off completely. Guess the monogram is there to stay, unless I re-spray the chalk paint on =) ps you're wayyyyy ahead of me with baby weight. I have a 12.5 wks old, and gained a whopping 80 lbs while pregnant. Not sure how that happened since I was so nauseted for over 1/2 the pregnancy that I could barely eat. Highly unfair. Oh well, close to 30 lbs gone so far, but I have a long road ahead until I'm into my old jeans =)

    2. I actually got this cake at Trader Joes, in the freezer section. It was quite good. I just added the chocolate shavings and that was it!

  17. I love that quote! It is perfect for my hubby! :) Those pens are awesome as well. They are the same ones I used to use at the cafe for decorating our weekly/monthly signs. What is that chalkboard made on? It looks like just a plate. Such a cute idea!

    1. Thanks, Melissa! The chalkboard is painted on a silver platter. My mother-in-law made it and gave it to me for Christmas.

  21. Love this post. You can find these chalk pins at Michael's too!!! I love our chalkboards in our home too. I love this quote and might have to borrow it! :)

  22. Chalk pens at Hobby Lobby as well! Also, if you want to reuse the plate or platter that you are using for a chalkboard simply use a piece of chalkboard contact paper instead of paint....it will peel right off when you don't want the chalkboard anymore....and if the chalk pen leaves residue you can just peel the contact paper off and use a fresh piece for a new message!

  23. If and when you turn your handwriting into a font, I will be the first in line to purchase it! So beautiful!

  24. I can't believe you can do the lettering like that, it looks amazing, i think lettering and stuff like that is waaay harder than painting a painting! And.... what in the heck is that cake???!!! Oh my gosh... it looks crazy good. I'm a chocolate girl all the way... sometimes i HAVE to have chocolate, nothing else will do. And, i'm dying to try those chalk pens...
Good for you for working out, now you can eat some cake!! Ok, just kidding

  25. My husband Jack told me that he saw y'all out walking on Saturday. So glad you got to come to Durham! You look fabulous even if you do have a few extra Lola pounds--but good for you for working out. Spend much time with Lauren and she'll have you working out hard, huh? That girl is amazing!

I love your chalkboard plate. I need to get a paint pen. I recently made a big chalkboard for my front porch, and I have chalk and an eraser in a bucket--but a chalk pen would work so much better! Love that chocolate quotation. I've heard before that "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels," but I just don't know if that's right! :)

    1. Haha - yeah, I could barely keep up with Lauren, or Patty for that matter! They are way too in shape for me - haha! At least it has been good inspiration - five days in a row now! =)

I think I should rewrite it with nothing tastes as good as skinny feels and maybe that will be more inspiring!

Hope you all are doing well!

  29. Thank you so much for your quick response about the chalk pens. I need them for the same reason - a wedding. =) So thankful I don't have to try to do it with regular chalk. Now I need to order them and start practicing. Love your blog so much!!

  30. Did you use the 6mm or 1mm marker? or both? What's your preference for versatility? Thanks!

    1. I have used both and like both - it just depends on the project.
