Updated Fall Dining Room with New Bench and Runner and Joy to the World

A few weeks ago I showed you the farmhouse table I built for our dining room and a few days after that our fall decorating in that room. Although I was pretty excited about the table, I was not a fan of my autumn decor in that room. It was a little dark and drab looking. It might have been fine for November, but just seemed too dreary for September or early October, especially seeing how the weather is still so warm here. Last week I finally played around with it and am so much happier with how it looks. The first thing I did was build a bench for one side of the table. It took a little while but was relatively simple. I upholstered the top of it once I built the base and then added some nailhead trim to dress it up a bit. I took photos as I went and as soon as I have time to edit them will do a tutorial.

Sometimes I feel like things look better in photographs than they do in real life and sometimes I feel like a photograph just doesn't relay the feel of something. In this case, I was disappointed in the photos I took of the dining room and the bench. I think the fabric and trim on the bench add a nice little shine and dress the bench up which helps keep the room from getting too rustic but it's hard to really see in these pictures.

After I finished the bench I felt like the table needed a runner so Lillie and I made a new runner. It's basically the same as the one we had on our old table but a little bit narrower and quite a bit longer. The one from the last table didn't fit on this one. And then after that we added some fresh hydrangeas and white pumpkins to the table and sideboard. I like it so much better in here now!

I also wanted to let you know our Joy to the World pillow covers in Cranberry are now available!

I hope you all have a lovely week!

  1. I love it, Jennifer. You did such a wonderful job on the table and bench. And you have just the perfect amount of "fall" here. I think your pictures came out great, the room looks sunlit and cozy! Love the three tiered basket!

  2. You might have a small home but you always make it so adorable! I sure wish I the bug for working in my own home but lately it seems to be MIA. White pumpkins just seem to make any decor look that much nicer! Is your condo still for sale?

    1. Thank you! And sort of...we never really put it on the market officially with a realtor. We just tried to sell it by owner but in our neighborhood you aren't allowed to put a sign on the lawn you have to just put it in a window and seeing how we live on a dead end road we didn't get much traffic. We took the sign out of the window a little while ago and plan on listing it with a realtor this spring.

  10. That's it. I'm completely and utterly convinced that there are two of you. How how can you run your own shop, be a mama, sew, and build furniture AND look fabulous? Amazing, as always.:)

    1. Haha! You are sweet! I promise you though, there's a reason I show very few pictures of myself on the blog - I do not look fabulous or anything close to it! I normally have on sweatpants and a tshirt and look a mess and oh so tired. I don't sleep much. =) And the shop would not exist if it weren't for Jason to do most of the real "work" involved and my sister Jamie does quite a bit too.

Love the white hydrangeas and white punkins together, and the bucket the flowers are in just makes it all. That tiered basket is the greatest thing too, you always have it dressed up so cute. 1. It is from Restoration Hardware. I got mine five years ago. It was a floor model that had a chip in it so I got it for half off! =)I am pretty sure they still carry them but they are pretty pricey now.

  23. You are so talented! I am wondering if you made the bucket that is holding the hydrangeas or if you purchased it somewhere? And what color you painted the bench? Thanks!! I enjoy your work so much!

    1. Thanks! I purchased the bucket at White Home Collections in Wilton, NH a few summers ago and painted the bench in Benjamin Moore's Shenandoah Taupe - AC-36.

  25. Hi, I just found your blog last week and I've been obsessed! You are my perfect decorating inspiration and I'm in love with your house! Could you please tell me your paint that you used in your dining room next to your wallpaper?? It's perfect, warm, inviting! I also loooove that wallpaper! Do you happen to know the name of that? Thank you so much.

    1. Thank you so much! That paint color is Ashley Gray. You can find all of our paint colors in the sections on top labeled "Our Home" and "FAQ's". I don't remember the name of the wallpaper but I got it online at American Blinds and Wallpaper and I know Amy at Maison Decor has the same paper in a different color in her dining room and she might remember the name.
