Summer Sideboard

I've got one more closet to share some pictures of later this week (we haven't wallpapered it yet but we made it a little more functional) but I still have to finish going through those pictures so today I thought I would share what our kitchen sideboard looks like in the summer. We kept the hot cocoa stuff out through late spring but once the very very hot (yuck!) weather arrived we put that stuff away in the pantry and just kept out the different coffee syrups we use and added a few of the disposable cups we found at HomeGoods in some black and white polka dots and stripes that are fun to use for snacking. Then we generally keep fresh cut flowers from the yard on here. Despite the fact that we've planted quite a few hydrangea bushes the last couple of years we've only had a few blooms this year. At least that's better than nothing, though! And seeing how the bushes are growing like crazy we are hoping next year we will have a lot more to cut.

Wallpaper For The Guest Room Closet

I know it will probably seem strange (and probably a little crazy) to a lot of people to bother wallpapering the inside of a closet, but I have to say I love having the little surprise element of opening a closet and seeing a fun and unexpected print inside, especially in a guest room. We had this paper that I absolutely love from Wallpaper Direct hung in here last week and then added a few baskets and metal storage boxes from HomeGoods along with some other storage items we already had and got it all cleaned up for our guests. We have tried to keep this closet relatively empty so that our guests can hang things and use it when they are visiting, but we also needed it to store a handful of our things. Here is what it looked like before. It had the original coat of peachy colored primer on the walls that I am pretty sure was from when this house was built many years ago, and some random things scattered around in here.

There are about 17" on either side of the closet that you can't see so we stored some of the more colorful things over to the right, (like most of our winters coats, vests, etc.) and then hung a few of the nicer coats near the front.

We also keep things like the girls' suitcases over in that corner and our pack and play is hidden down under the coats. Those items are all still easy to grab but a little tucked out of the way seeing how they aren't things we use on a daily basis.

Over in the other corner we keep things like my suitcase as well as some random binders and frames and then we have some extra hangers ready for guests to use. The baskets help store things (like fans and other items that are nice to have on hand for visitors) and still keep things visually appealing.

Some Finishing Touches to Our Powder Room and Hand Carved Measuring Spoons

We finally added the finishing touches to our powder room. We added this bird print in a circular metal frame that we found at Savvy above the toilet and another piece of art that we've had for years to the wall opposite the sink but that wall is basically impossible to photograph so I gave up. It's nice finally having something hung on the walls in here. Below is a photo from last year's post and taken at another angle. You can see more of those photos here

I also wanted to share some images of some beautiful hand carved figured walnut measuring spoons that Polder's Old World Market sent us. Each one is a piece of art! They arrived Friday and yesterday we used them to make pancakes and chocolate chip cookies.

And here is a source list for our powder room.

A Little Tiered Ice Cream Station

We've had quite a bit of ice cream lately thanks to the really hot weather we've been having and we had lots of fun setting up this little ice cream station using our new tiered stand from The Painted Fox.  We found some really cute floral patterned paper cups at HomeGoods and we filled some little blue creamers that we found there earlier this year with caramel and hot fudge and then added some fresh cut roses from our yard to some little mercury glass votives that were also from The Painted Fox. And then we filled our Pottery Barn Emma bowls with miniature Reese's, Kit Kats, Heath Bar Crunch, Walnuts, M&M's and some mini marshmallows (clearly we like chocolate -ha!)

And guess what! The lovely ladies from The Painted Fox are giving away one of these fabulous stands on their Instagram page! Hurry over to their instagram page to find out how to enter!
